List Of 10 Equipments You Need To Start A Small Music Studio In Nigeria

This short article is basically a list of basic equipment required to start small music studio Nigeria. Its for those who have no idea of what to buy. There are hundreds of ways to configure your home recording studio. If you’ve had a studio for a while, then you know what I’m talking about.

Over time the small home studio has evolved and grown in all sorts of directions. If you’re new to home recording, however, this can be almost paralyzing! You’ve got a million different products, all of which claim to be the savior of the modern world.

Where do you even start? My goal here isn’t to provide an exhaustive list of every equipment anyone would ever think of. I am also not here to give you a comparison chart that covers every minute detail of every recording product ever invented.

Rather, I’ll speak from my own experience. I’m not a music producer or a sound engineer but I do have some experience settings of home studios.

This article is a list catered more towards the beginner, but there’s a lot of information here that could prove helpful to you whether you’ve been recording music in your home since the fifties or you have yet to record your first note.

Hopefully I can shed some light on the matter and give you a broad picture of what it takes to have a great home studio. In thinking through this, I’ve come up with the following list:

10 music Studio Necessities

1. Computer ( second hand desktop will do fine)
2. DAW (Digital Audio Workstation)/Recording Software ( Fruity loops, Cubase, Adobe audition etc)
3. Audio Interface/sound card
4. Microphone(s)
5. Studio Monitors (Specialized speakers)
6. Headphones
7. External/Dedicated Hard Drive ( at least 32 gig)
8. MIDI Controller (That keyboardy thing you see in studio)
9. Good Cables
10. Power (Generator because NEPA…)

In fact, you could have only two or three out of twelve and be well on your way to making a great small studio. You can make good songs with just a basic #1, a free version of #2, and just any #4.

The most important thing is your skill. Experts can make great recordings with substandard equipment and quacks can make poor recordings with great equipment.

So spend more time learning how to use the soft wares on your computer. You can scale up as the need arises. There is no point building a badass sony music-like studio, and having no idea of how to use it.

As a beginner, you can go for the less pricey gadgets. Setting up a small studio in your room can cost you as low as N150, 000. But one thing I’ve noticed is that the more expensive musical equipment perform better.

I’d advice you meetup with a guy who is good at it so you can be shown around. There is no shame in having a small budget. There are lots of products you can buy but if you’re just looking to record basic songs, those should be more than enough.
